Brew of the Week

Driftwood Brewery is Victoria’s newest micro brewery so when I saw Driftwood Ale on tap at Bartholomew’s Pub in the Executive House Hotel I ordered a pint.

This light bronze-coloured ale was served in a proper English straight glass and was $5.00 for the pint. I found it had a light, clean taste and went down easy. I liked it a lot.
Driftwood describes this ale as having a “dry and restrained malt character which allows the hops to shine through.”

It is a mild ale that goes well with seafood, accompanied by bitter salads and strong cheeses.
Driftwood was founded in the Spring of this year by Jason Meyer and Kevin Hearsum. In August the pair were joined by Gary Lindsay who has years of experience in promoting craft beer in the local market.

Driftwood promises “…beer that is fresh, brewed in the tradition of classic world styles but with the finest local ingredients.”

Other products (which I will be sampling in the weeks ahead) include Farmhand Ale, White Bark Wheat Ale and Blackstone Porter.
