I hadn’t heard of the Vancouver Island Feast of the Fields until my favourite ‘Winey Wednesday) bartender Heather told me she would be having a stall there this year. When not working the bar at Doubles’ in the Executive House Heather is busy making chocolates, cakes and other sweet treats for her company Vin Coco.
All of Heather’s products are hand made and hand painted, using fresh ingredients and made to order, and that includes being sensitive to allergies, nuts, lactose for example. Vin Coco is Red Seal certified, all products are local, even the packaging is made from Canadian re-cycled paper.

Anyway back to Feast of the Fields. This gastronomic day with nature is a gourmet wandering picnic harvest festival and fundraising event.
“With a wine glass and linen napkin in hand, you can taste the very best of the Islands and BC from chefs, vintners, brewers, farmers, and food artisans. Connections are made between producers and chefs, producers and consumers, farm folks and city folks. These connections provide an increased awareness of and appreciation for local food and agriculture. Feast of Fields is a gastronomic journey towards a sustainable, local food system.”
Feast of the Fields is a non-profit organization which to date has funded the work of FarmFolk/CityFolk and provided more than $68,000 for community projects.
This year the Feast is September 21 at the Victorian Epicure Vineyard in North Saanich off West Saanich Road near Wain Road. Tickets are $85 for adults and teens. The price for children 7 to 12 is $15.
